Jeff Se sions’ place of work in Mobile, Ala., to protest his nomination as U.S. lawyer basic. The sit-in was staged with the NAACP and parts were being broadcast stay on-line. The NAACP has sharply criticized Se sions’ file on civil rights, voting rights and legal justice reform. 6 of the activists ended up seemingly arrested, together with NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks. As NPR’s Nina Totenberg has reported, those charges ended up dismi sed by a jury, and civil legal rights groups described the prosecution as attempted intimidation of black voters. The NAACP cited Se sions’ “record of racially offensive remarks and behavior” as another reason the group objects to his nomination. As Nina explained in November, Se sions was nominated for a federal judgeship in the ’80s. He was rejected by a Republican-controlled Senate after he acknowledged having made racially insensitive remarks and calling several civil rights groups together with the NAACP “un-American.” He later denied making some from the remarks, which “seemed to add a credibility problem to his troubles,” Nina wrote. Soon after making public statements objecting to Se sions’ nomination, the NAACP turned to civil disobedience. Brooks tweeted on Tuesday that the activists with him in Cell were prepared to be arrested for their protest. Cornell William Brooks (@CornellWBrooks) January 3, 2017 The https://www.bluejaysshine.com/Clayton-Richard-Jersey sit-in began on Tuesday morning at Se sions’ workplace in Mobile, Ala., the AP reports:”Demonstrators refused a request through the manager on the building which includes several other tenants in addition to Se sions to leave when the building closed for the day at 6 p.m. Police could be seen on video footage … handcuffing the 6 protesters and [escorting] them to a police van. ” ‘We all are aware of your laws of trespa s. We are engaging in a voluntary act of civil disobedience,’ Brooks told the officers who arrived at the scene.”PoliticsTrump’s Pick For Lawyer Standard Known For Hard-Line Immigration Stance AL.com reports that “according to Cell County jail records all six of the arrested members have been charged with second-degree felony trespa sing.” The sit-in was part of a statewide protest against Periods, Kyle Ga siott of Troy Public Radio reports for NPR. “Se sions has five offices in cities acro s the state, together with Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile, and at each of your five locations members with the NAACP held pre s conferences protesting his nomination for lawyer general,” Ga siott claims. A spokeswoman for Periods said in a statement that “false portrayals” of Se sions “will fail as tired, recycled, hyperbolic charges that have been thoroughly rebuked and discredited,” the AP reports. Meanwhile, https://www.bluejaysshine.com/Roy-Halladay-Jersey more than 1,200 law school profe sors have signed a letter urging the Senate to reject Se sions’ nomination. “Nothing in Senator Se sions’ public life since 1986 has convinced us that he is a different man than the 39-year-old legal profe sional who was deemed too racially insensitive to be a federal district court judge,” the profe sors write, citing his prosecution of civil rights activists and “consistent promotion from the myth of voter-impersonation fraud,” among other things. “All of us believe it is unacceptable for someone with Senator Se sions’ report to lead the Department of Justice,” they write. Se sions’ former chief counsel, who is black, told The Washington Post that the “smear campaign” accusing Periods of racial insensitivity needs to stop.
